Courtney Loach, RMT

Courtney graduated from Medicine Hat College 10 years ago and has been practicing as a clinical massage therapist since then. Following a 3 year formal program in sports massage therapy, Courtney expanded her skill set by becoming full-body certified in Active Release Techniques.

She had the opportunity to work as a massage therapist for Hockey Canada with their National Women’s High Performance teams, as well as local work with the Calgary Buffaloes Hockey Association. Courtney has also traveled with our National Long Track Speed Skating Team to various international World Cups. She thrives on the ability to maintain an athlete at their optimum performance. Her experience, training, and love of sport have fueled development of a therapeutic approach to care, drawing from a diversity of techniques that always engages and strives to educate. While her passion is driven in sport, she also loves to treat a variety of ailments including postural discomfort, strains and sprains, and general imbalance in the body.

As a former dancer and current try-hard runner, she sees the value in a strong base of strength and flexibility to have success in all physical endeavors.

Lucia was born and raised in Slovakia, Europe. She graduated with a Physiotherapy Bachelor degree from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. In her last year of university she worked as a Physiotherapy assistant for a Canadian hockey team that came to Czech Republic for a skills camp and tournament.

After Lucia completed her Physiotherapy degree she decided to move to Calgary to pursue her career in private practice and focus on treating sports injuries. She volunteered as physiotherapist for the University of Alberta female hockey team up to the Alberta winter games in 2009/2010. Over her five years in private practice she has trained in orthopedic manual therapy and completed three out of five levels. Currently her biggest focus and passion is Women’s Health Physiotherapy but she still enjoys treating sports injuries. In 2015 She traveled to Washington DC to complete a course in Prenatal and postnatal Pilates training.

Lucia is a busy mom of two little kids. With her family, she spends as much time as she can in mountains hiking, biking and exploring new places in Rockies.

Roma graduated from the University of Saskatchewan where she obtained Bachelor degrees in Education, Kinesiology and Physiotherapy. Her work as a Physiotherapist has been diverse incorporating both the public and private sectors. During Roma’s 18 year career, she has gained extensive experience treating trauma-induced sports injuries, repetitive strains, motor vehicle accidents, work-related injuries and in post-surgical rehabilitation. She has recently returned to Calgary after an opportunity to work in the Cayman Islands for the past two years. Her passion for treating sports related injuries drew her to work with the team at Movement Sports Clinic.

Roma’s patients appreciate her thorough and personable care. Her approach to rehabilitation is to educate patients about their injuries, advise them on what they can do to facilitate their healing and apply the optimal Physiotherapy treatment. In an effort to continuously expand her skill set as a Physiotherapist, Roma has pursued courses in manual therapy, Gunn IMS and spinal stabilization. This year she is studying diagnostic imaging for Physiotherapists and is looking forward to being able to provide this specialized service for her patients.

Roma’s passion for treating sports injuries stems from her own experience as an athlete. While at the University of Saskatchewan, she was a member of the Huskie Track & Field Team and competed nationally and internationally in the Heptathlon. While competing at an elite level, she gained an appreciation for the positive influence that Physiotherapy had on healing injuries and optimizing athletic performance. Since hanging up her track spikes, she has found a new passion in the sport of rowing and is a member of the competitive program at the Calgary Rowing Club.

I have been a Massage Therapy Association of Alberta certified Massage Therapist since 2011. And a 2003 Graduate from the International Academy of Massage Therapy, located in Ottawa, Ontario. I have a background as an elite athlete in biathlon throughout my teenage and early adult years. Over the past 20 years I have worked assisting olympians with three separate Olympics, the most recent being the Beijing Olympics. As well as assisting clients with their physical and health goals in Calgary for the last 10 years, working alongside people who build up the office core.

My treatment types include joint mobilization, fascial techniques, RAPID techniques, and others such as contract relax, stretching. By using such techniques with aimed results of prevention or recovery of injury and enhancement of physical performance as well as mobility.

Like many people in Calgary I love adventuring in the Canadian Rockies with my family as well as city cycling and canoeing. Of course I am also a fan of winter adventures such as Telemark skiing and cross country skiing.

Tyson Plesuk is a sports and manual physiotherapist who works with Olympic, NHL, and other professional and amateur athletes, as well as people of all ages and backgrounds from the general public.

His choice of a career in physiotherapy arose from a keen interest in his own recovery from injuries sustained while participating in hockey, lacrosse and volleyball.

Tyson is committed to further develop his knowledge and skills within the field of physiotherapy by completing a number of courses. He has completed courses in acupuncture and dry needling (IMS), manual therapy, fascial release, and injury prevention. He has also taken courses in assessing functional movement, including being SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment) certified.

While attending Queen’s University to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Science (Biology), Tyson was captain of the hockey team and an Academic All-Canadian. After completing his undergraduate degrees, he received his Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta. He is certified in acupuncture with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada, a Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) practitioner, certified in Spinal Manipulation. Tyson also has a Certificate in Sports Physiotherapy from Sport Physiotherapy Canada.

Tyson served as the head physiotherapist at the 2009 Brier (Canadian men’s curling championship) and the Roar of the Rings Olympic Curling Trials. In 2010, Tyson became a physiotherapist consultant to the Canadian Sport Institute Calgary and most recently was the Medical Lead for both the Canadian Bobsleigh and Skeleton teams. In 2014, he was part of the Canadian medical team for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia and has attended a number of World Cup and World Championships as a physiotherapist.

Through advanced training, Tyson is authorized to order diagnostic imaging, and as a result has the ability to directly refer patients for x-ray, ultrasound and MRI diagnostic services.

In 2008, Tyson became part of the executive of the Southern Alberta Orthopaedic, including being the co-chair for 5 years.

Louise practices Physiotherapy in order to help all individuals move well without pain and maximize their physical potential at any age. She develops a therapeutic alliance with the client through communication, empathy, trust and respect. Individuals are empowered to reach their rehabilitative and performance goals through education, exercise prescription, Manual Therapy and the use of appropriate adjunct treatments such as Acupuncture. Louise evaluates the latest research and integrates the best practices in order to help her clients reach their goals. Her greatest skill is analyzing a problem and implementing an effective and realistic treatment plan. She remains aware of emerging technologies and incorporates new techniques as appropriate. Manual Therapy skills are used to facilitate joint and myofascial mobility and decrease pain sensitivity. A home program of Therapeutic Exercise is always prescribed to reinforce movement changes, establish optimum movement patterns and to stabilize and strengthen the musculoskeletal system. Acupuncture and dry needling techniques are also utilized to promote recovery and function.

In 2011, Louise achieved the academic Masters designation in Manipulative Therapy (MClSc PT) from the University of Western Ontario. Her research study continues at The University of Calgary in the area of understanding lumbo-pelvic-hip pain the hunter/jumper equestrian rider population.

As of May 1, 2012 qualified physiotherapists in Alberta are authorized to order Diagnostic Imaging such as x-ray, ultrasound and MRI diagnostic services. Louise was one of the first to obtain these credentials and is pleased to be able to provide this service to her patients. Based upon imaging results, clients will be referred to sport physicians and other medical specialists as required to complete their injury or disease management. As part of educating her clients and the community, Louise has written and Published Articles related to sport, injury and prevention. She has also given Presentations to corporate Calgary and has also presented to her peers at professional conferences. Louise is committed to health and wellness herself. She loves running and triathlon and continues challenging herself at races of all distances. Skiing, including Nordic, Alpine and Alpine Touring, is her winter passion. She has been greatly informed by her sports participation and the coaching professionals she has worked with over the years. Areas of special interest are injuries related to running and triathlon as well as performance of the Masters athlete in any sport. Louise offers a Running Analysis service and she also sees a number of patients with repetitive strain injuries related to computer and office work.
